Job Description

We are seeking skilled Virtual Machine Migration Engineers to join our team and support a large-scale migration of virtual machines (VMs) from VMware to OpenStack. The environment includes various VM operating systems (Windows, Linux distributions, SUSE with SAP applications) as well as VMs with special requirements, such as RDM disks in physical mode and VMware Photon OS VMs.

Key Responsibilities-

• Execute migration of a large volume of VMs from VMware to OpenStack
• Identify, map, and replicate network and storage configurations for VMs, including those with multiple NICs and multiple disks
• Address specific challenges for SUSE VMs, particularly with bootloader compatibility and disk recognition issues.
• Work on the migration of database and clustered applications (MSSQL, DB2, SAP) to ensure compatibility and optimal performance on OpenStack.
• Troubleshoot and implement solutions for VMs with RDM physical disks and VMware Photon OSVMs.

Required Skills and Qualifications

1. VMware and OpenStack Expertise

• Proficient in VMware (vSphere, ESXi) and OpenStack (Nova, Cinder, Neutron) environments.
• Strong understanding of VM configurations, storage, and networking in both platforms.
• Knowledge of Photon OS and its compatibility limitations with non-VMware platforms-
• Familiarity with other virtualization technologies and hybrid cloud environments.

2. VM Migration Tools and Scripting

• Hands-on experience with VM migration tools and automation using scripting languages such as Python or Bash
• Experience in batch migration, scheduling, and automation.

3. Linux OS and Grub Troubleshooting

• Advanced Linux system administration skills, especially with SUSE, RHEL, CentOS, Debian, and Ubuntu.
• Experience in troubleshooting GRUB bootloader issues (e.g., GRUBv1/v2) to ensure Linux VM compatibility during migration.

4. Storage and Network Configuration

• Deep understanding of storage configurations, specifically with Raw Device Mapping (RDM) in physical mode.
• Familiarity with network configuration in a virtualized environment, including multi-disk and multi-NIC setups.

5. Database and Clustered Application Migration

• Previous experience migrating VMs with database and clustered applications, such as MSSQL, DB2, and SAP.
• Ability to address application-specific migration challenges and optimize configurations on OpenStack
